Horsham is a picturesque and historic town located in West Sussex, a wonderful place to get in touch with nature!

Horsham is a small market town, located close to the river Arun in West Sussex. It’s been popular with holiday goers for many years due to the quiet, laidback feel of this location. However, there are plenty of activities for parents with kids to enjoy here. We think you’ll be surprised by just how much there is to do in Horsham, once you begin to explore this location. 

Arts

In Horsham, you will find several museums that even young children might find interesting. Here, you’ll discover the art of the ages as well as items that take you back centuries. If you are looking to bring something more to the table on your next holiday, this could be the ticket. Visiting some of the museums around Horsham could be a brilliant educational activity for kids of all ages. And, if that doesn’t keep their attention, you can always check out the small gift shops that are often packed full of little knick knacks and souvenirs kids are sure to love. 

Crafts

Horsham is well known for its crafts and the activities here certainly show that beautifully. You’ll find plenty of different options such as learning how to make pottery. Kids can have fun here too because it’s a lot like working with playdoh. Who knows, you might even be able to create something that you can take home with you. Of course, it’s not just pottery. Kids can also learn how to paper mache and perhaps even try making some models. 

Picnic In The Park

Not too far from Horsham town centre, you’ll find Southwater Country Park. There’s lots to enjoy here for the parents and the kids. If you want to take it easy, there are some beautiful walks and paths that will take you around the lake at the centre of the park. You can spend many happy hours enjoying the views and gazing at the ducks gliding across the water.

Of course, that’s not going to keep the kids entertained for long. But luckily, there are plenty of activities here that they will love. For instance, you’ll find an adventure style play area where they can go wild climbing through the trees. Or, if you want to participate in activities as a family, there are orienteering courses and even lessons in activities like canoeing. If you’re not scared of the water and almost definitely getting wet, you could have a lot of fun out on the lake as a family. 

After that, pick a quiet spot by the lake to enjoy the view with a good old fashioned picnic. 

Get In Touch With Nature

If you are visiting one of the parks around Horsham, you’re sure to spot some animals around the location. We’re not just talking about the ducks on the lake either. You might see foxes, badgers, squirrels and many more little critter. 

If your kids love animals and nature, they won’t be disappointed in Horsham.  There are locations here that will allow your kids to get up close and personal with real birds of prey. If that’s not enough, then you might also want to think about visiting the water gardens. Here you’ll discover aquatic life as well as some of the beautiful underwater plants. 

Discover History

If you want to explore history around Horsham, you should definitely check out Chesworth Farm. This was once the home of two of Henry VIII’s wives. Today it’s filled with nature trails, cycle tracks and friendly animals for the family to meet. You’ll find farm animals here that are perfectly comfortable with human contact and are sure to enthrall the little ones. Or, if you just want to gaze at natural beauty, be sure to visit the gorgeous meadow fields located here. 

It’s not the only place of historical significance in Horsham of course. There is also Nymans. This location is home to a 20th-century garden and has plenty of stunning features to explore. With a vast array of different sights, sounds and smells, little ones are going to love exploring this area. There’s usually an event or two happening here so make sure to check the calendar before you go for a visit if you don’t want to get caught in a large crowd. 

Try Paintballing

Or if you want to be more active why not try paintballing? You’ll find a few courses around Horsham that are sure to get you racing around hitting as many people as you can. It’s all in good fun of course and is suitable for most age groups.
